Frequently Asked Questions

This page covers the usual first questions about Redux: what it is, how installation works, whether saves are usable, and where to report problems.

What is KSP2 Redux?

KSP2 Redux is a fan project built on top of Kerbal Space Program 2. Our goal is to unofficially continue development of the game by fixing bugs, improving performance, and implementing features that were planned for the game but never released, including a full colony system, interstellar travel, and multiplayer.

Will my saves work with Redux?

Usually yes, but keep backups. Redux is still changing a lot, so existing saves often work, but no beta project should be treated as risk-free.

How much better is the performance?

It depends on the scene and your hardware. Redux has a lot of rendering, simulation, and memory work aimed at reducing stutter and improving framerate, but there is no single number that applies everywhere. We have seen improvements ranging from 30% to 80% higher FPS in normal situations, and even more in some extreme test cases, but it's highly variable.

Is Redux legal?

Redux is distributed as binary patches containing only our modifications to the game files. That means that there is no distribution of the original game code, and users must have a legal copy of KSP2 to use Redux.

Is Redux affiliated with the original KSP2 developers?

No. Redux is an independent fan project with no affiliation to the former KSP2 developers, Intercept Games, Private Division, Take-Two Interactive or Fictions. Please do not interpret this project as an official continuation of KSP2's development.

Can I use Redux with other mods?

Most existing mods will need to be updated to work with Redux due to the transition from BepInEx to an integrated mod loader and improvements to the modding API.

Some asset-only mods, especially simpler part mods, may work with little or no change. More complex code mods usually need some code changes.

How do I install, update, or uninstall Redux?

Download the latest release of the Updater from GitHub, run the updater, point it to your KSP2 installation, and select which version of Redux you want to install. The process takes a few minutes depending on your disk speed.

To uninstall Redux, use the uninstall button in the Updater settings. Check our detailed installation guide for step-by-step instructions.

You can also update between newer beta versions through the Updater. If you are on a version older than beta 5, you will need a fresh install of the latest beta.

What features are included in Redux?

Current (Stage 0 - Foundation): Performance work, bug fixing, debug tools, heat management, tech tree work, and modding SDK improvements. The implemented features and fixes page has a fuller list.

Planned: Orbital and planetary colonies, a full resource system, supply routes, interstellar work, and multiplayer. The roadmap has a full breakdown.

What is the difference between Exploration and Frontier mode?

Exploration mode is the lighter progression path where resources mostly work as unlocks. Frontier mode is planned later as a deeper colony economy with production, stockpiles, and supply routes. Read the full Frontier and Exploration guide.

How do I report bugs?

Use the in-game bug report feature by pressing Ctrl+B or going to Escape → Report Redux Bug. This automatically attaches screenshots, logs, and save files to help us reproduce the issue.

You can also report bugs in the #🟡redux-bugs channel on the KSP2 Redux Discord.

How can I contribute to the project?

Players: Test beta builds and report bugs
Artists: Contribute 3D models, textures, and assets
Developers: Help with code (experience with C#, Unity, or KSP modding preferred)
Translators: Translate game content into other languages
Modders: Update your mods for Redux compatibility

The contribution guide has the current details.
